We made it to HK. I'm not even going to try to write anything witty or interesting given the wacky sleep/no sleep haze I'm in.
It was a crazy long day of travel, and I'm so happy it's over! We were up until 3am packing, got up at 5am to get ready to leave, and Mom and Dad picked us up at 6. Our flight to Detroit was at 9am and we had a 4 hour layover. When we were getting ready to board the plane, we got the most wonderful news ever!!! The "polar route" was off limits, so we had to take some trans-Siberian long route to Hong Kong via the Bering Sea and Russia. Kinda like taking the back roads on a fall foliage trip. Except that this wasn't any foliage trip. So, our 15 hour flight became over 17 hours!!!! We didn't arrive at our hotel until after midnight. So, that's how long? I don't know, the calculator is still packed.
I will say: P might get in the Guiness Book of World Records for the Longest Plane Sleep Ever. I'm only slightly exaggerating when I say that he slept the entire trip. More than once, I surely thought he was dead so I put my mirror in front of his face to see if he was breathing. The boy even missed the mid-flight snack! If that doesn't tell you how tired he was, nothing will. Needless to say, the flight was a little boring for me.
Probably the highlight was meeting the Lillie Family! They were on our flight and we finally met on the jetway getting off the plane. Christie and I hugged like we were old friends. Or, like new ones embarking on a very similar journey. The four of us already have some funny memories of getting yelled at when we tried to take a picture, and the utter amazement that we packed the four of us and all of our luggage in a tiny cab. The back was wide open and tied with bungee cords and we just prayed that there were no big bumps or else diapers and hair bows would fly everywhere!
I guess one good thing about the long day of travel is that we gained a day (what happened to Friday?!?!) so we are one day closer to our Emmilene! Patrick just came into the room with what tastes like THE BEST coffee I have ever had. We have a short day here, so we'll get ready and probably visit Stanley Market. Looks fun.
Hi to everyone and we miss you already!

Miss you already! I gained some time too! As in, all of the time that we usually spend on the phone has added up to quite a bit of time!
Stay safe, get some rest (although, maybe Patrick is all rested up), eat well and take care of yourself. Not long now!
Very happy for you guys. GOOD sleep too!!
FUN! Stanley Market is a fun place, the ride there is even MORE fun! Hopefully you can experience the double decker bus:)
So excited for you!!!
Kelly
Best wishes on your journey...it is an incredible one and she is one lucky girl!!!
And I am sure will be spoiled by auntie Sue...
That is what aunties do...
I'm looking forward to following the rest of your trip in the blog... The bad news is that when you fly home, you'll be flying "into the past" across the international date line so that day will actually be LONGER... But you'll have Emmilene with you so it'll all be good stuff. :-)
Can't wait to follow your China journey!

We r counting the minutes till you meet Emmie. Soon she will know love like no other! Stay safe and bring her home to us.
